The Correlation Between Mindset and Performance

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right,” is perhaps the most famous quote by Henry Ford. But what does it mean? Your mind steers just about everything, including your outcome. Your mindset is the lens through which you see the world and your place in it. These thoughts, expressions and beliefs affect the choices you make every single day.


How Did Your Mindset Lead You Here?

Wherever you are at this very moment has something to do with your mindset. If you are constantly hearing and repeating stories about yourself and the world around you, you will believe them because they are always being reinforced. When your mindset becomes a habit, it defines who you are and who you can become.


Heavy, right? You’ve heard people say they don’t like change. How often do those people actively participate in change? What if they told everybody, including themselves, how excited change made them? We think there would be a lot more change in their lives and even more opportunities.


The psychologist William James said, “Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create thefact.” In short, you are what you think.


Visualisation and Manifestation

These two topics get a lot of press for having changed people’s lives who subscribe to this school of thought. It begins by speaking as though you have already achieved the goal. For instance, if you want to manifest an athletic body and ability, you choose one of two mindsets. “I am an athlete,” will cause you to act differently than if you say, “I can be an athlete.”


One implies you have it in you, and the other implies you already are. Once you’ve stated it, decipher what actions an athlete would take. You can use this discipline in any aspect of your life with any goal, but youdo need action. It’s not enough to say, “I am rich” then hang back and wait for the money to roll in.


What action would a rich person take? She would ask for a raise, go for a bigger job and save instead of spend. Think of how that’s different than saying “I can be rich.” How does somebody act who could be rich? The same as the rest of us, we imagine. Manifesting where you want to be can be as simple as saying you’re already there and acting accordingly.


Your mind will keep you where you are or propel you toward your goals. The best part? You get to choosewhich it will be.
